This exquisite Deangle mask, one of the most revered forms in the Dan masking tradition, embodies a gentle female spirit believed to act as mediator between the human world and the divine. Carved from a single piece of dense hardwood and polished to a deep mahogany lustre through years of ritual handling, every element of this mask is intentional. The high domed forehead signals wisdom and calm authority. The long, refined nose descends to a small, composed mouth — the face of a spirit who listens before she speaks.
